was no relation to Elizabeth Gaskell, the author.
Reference books on clock makers give the dates of about 1760-1790
for Thomas Gaskell of Knutsford but there are later clocks with
his name on the dial: I know of one in the town dated 1817. It seems
that father and son or sons of the same name worked until about
1845.
In the graveyard of the parish church three Thomas Gaskells were
buried in 1780, 1827 and 1845. Their stones can be seen on the Church
hill side of the lower church yard.

Dear Joan, I just purchased a long case clock that was made by Thomas
Gaskell. Can you please tell me about him? How ws he related to
Elizabeth Gaskell? On the face of my clock it says Knutsford and
I am researching to find out as much about my clock as I can. Any
